WNAC first broadcasts.

June 21, 1948

Operated the General Tire Company, it broadcasts on Channel 7. It is the second commercial television station in New England and an ABC network affiliate. The station is subsequently purchased by RKO General, Inc., which also owns the Boston Herald-Traveler. The Federal Communications Commission, attempting to diversify the ownership of media companies and after a long court battle, revokes the company’s license to operate the station and forces its sale to new owners in 1982.*
